Polyurethane Mining Products — FRAS Certified

Surface and underground mining components manufactured in Queensland since 1979.

Polyurethane mining components including FRAS products manufactured by Elastomers Queensland

Elastomers Queensland has supplied polyurethane components to the Australian mining industry for over 45 years. From open-cut coal and iron ore operations across Queensland to underground hard rock mines, our components operate in environments that destroy lesser materials within weeks.

Our manufacturing capability spans the full range of mining applications: FRAS-certified products for underground use, dragline components, conveyor system parts, mineral processing equipment wear parts, and custom mouldings for every application in between. We manufacture from raw polyurethane — not buy in and fabricate — which means we control the formulation, the hardness, and the quality of every component.

Surface Mining

Dragline operations place extreme demands on wear components. The cyclic loads, abrasive overburden, and harsh outdoor conditions of a dragline operating in Queensland's coalfields require components that can withstand continuous punishment. Elastomers Queensland manufactures dragline components in cast polyurethane, including bucket lip protection, intermediate components, and custom-profiled wear parts.

Open-cut coal and iron ore operations rely on conveyor systems to move ore from pit to processing. Our polyurethane conveyor pulley lagging extends belt and pulley life by improving belt grip and reducing wear at the pulley interface. We supply both new lagging and refurbishment of worn pulleys, with Queensland-based turnaround that minimises conveyor downtime.

Mineral processing plants — from coal wash plants to gold processing facilities — use polyurethane wear liners to protect chutes, cyclone feed boxes, pump casings, and transfer points from abrasive slurry. We manufacture liners in hardness grades matched to the material being processed, with bonded steel backing where structural attachment is required.

Underground Mining

Underground coal and hard rock mining environments require FRAS (Fire Retardant Anti-Static) certified polyurethane for all non-metallic components that may be used near ignition sources or in methane-risk areas. FRAS certification is a legal requirement, not a preference, for underground operations in Australian mines.

Elastomers Queensland manufactures FRAS-certified polyurethane products for underground applications including sheeting, liners, rollers, custom mouldings, and conveyor accessories. Our FRAS products comply with MDG3608 requirements applicable to underground coal mining. See our dedicated FRAS Polyurethane page for full detail on FRAS requirements and our product range.

Underground mining products we manufacture include shuttle car bumpers to absorb impact at production and outbye ends, cable crossover pads to protect cables at roadway crossings, hungry boards for conveyor belt edge sealing, belt scrapers to keep conveyor belts clean, wheel chocks for equipment immobilisation, pan line joiners, and tread plates for vehicle access.

Mineral Processing

The transition from run-of-mine ore to saleable product involves equipment that is constantly in contact with abrasive, corrosive, or high-velocity materials. Screens, cyclones, pumps, chutes, and transfer conveyors all benefit from polyurethane wear protection.

We manufacture trommel wheels for rotating screening drums, screen panel backing pads, pump impeller liners, hydrocyclone feed boxes, and custom-profiled wear liners for transfer chutes. The right polyurethane formulation for processing applications depends on the material being processed — we work with maintenance engineers to specify correctly.

Geographic Advantage for Queensland Mine Sites

Many of Australia's specialist polyurethane mining suppliers are based in Mackay, far north of the major SEQ mining and agricultural regions. Elastomers Queensland's Brisbane location provides a genuine supply chain advantage for mine sites on the Darling Downs, in the Bowen Basin southern end, and across the South-East Queensland region.

Faster delivery, quicker turnaround on refurbishment, and the ability to visit our facility without a significant travel commitment — these are practical advantages that translate into less downtime and more responsive supply.
