Shuttle Car Bumpers — Polyurethane
FRAS polyurethane shuttle car bumpers for underground coal mining operations.

Shuttle cars operate in the most demanding environment in underground coal mining — continuous loading, tight roadways, and constant movement between the production face and the feeder breaker. The bumpers at each end of the shuttle car absorb the impact loads of vehicle contact in confined underground roadways.
Elastomers Queensland manufactures polyurethane shuttle car bumpers for underground coal mining. Our bumpers are available in FRAS polyurethane to meet the compliance requirements for underground use, and manufactured to OEM dimensions or to custom specifications where replacement dimensions differ from original equipment.
Application and Design Considerations
Shuttle car bumpers must absorb the kinetic energy of vehicle impact in confined underground roadways without permanent deformation that would reduce their effectiveness over time. The hardness and geometry of the bumper determines how energy is absorbed and distributed across the contact area.
Too soft, and the bumper collapses under impact and provides no protection after initial contact. Too hard, and the bumper transmits impact loads directly to the machine structure rather than absorbing them. The correct specification depends on the mass of the shuttle car, the typical approach speed at impact, and the contact geometry.
We work with maintenance engineers to specify the appropriate hardness and profile for each shuttle car model. Where OEM bumpers are no longer available or have extended lead times, we manufacture replacements to the OEM dimensions.
FRAS Requirement for Underground Use
Non-metallic components used on equipment operating in underground coal mines are required to be FRAS. Shuttle car bumpers are non-metallic — specify FRAS for underground coal applications.
Our FRAS shuttle car bumpers are manufactured with the same fire retardant anti-static chemistry as our full FRAS product range, and are documented to TRG3608 requirements.
